EMT Advanced
EMT/Advanced are responsible for completing all run reports via AngelTrack and other appropriate paperwork and ensure that all hard copies are turned into the designated lockbox.
EMT/Advanced are also responsible for:
- Assist the driver in the task of cleaning the units, retrieving, cleaning, and checking out equipment and restocking the unit.
- Assist the driver with traffic observation, navigation, and communication as necessary.
- Must be able to pass a mental evaluation and drug screen.
- Upon arrival at the scene, the EMT/Advanced will obtain any necessary equipment and use his or her skills to gain access to the patient.
- Evaluate the patient and provide proper care.
- Determine the specific needs of the patient according to the Alabama State Law protocols for his or her level (BLS, ALS-1, or ALS-2 treatment), and determine the appropriate hospital to care for the patient. Vital signs should be taken on every patient and documented on your run report.
- Make sure the proper authorities are notified and attempt to protect property and preserve evidence as long as it does not interfere with patient care.
- While enroute to the patient’s destination monitor the patient’s condition and be alert to any changes. Any changes in the patient’s condition should be documented and treated appropriately.
- Notify the receiving hospital of the patient’s condition and ETA; allowing adequate time for the facility to prepare for the patient.
- Upon arrival to the hospital with the patient, the EMT/Advanced should:
- Relay pertinent information to the medical staff.
- Complete required records and reports.
- Provide the medical staff with a copy of the report. Medical staff should have access to your run report within 24 hours of transport.
- Assist the driver in retrieving equipment and supplies.
- Assist the driver to ready the unit for the next call.
- Take required personal hygiene measures.
- Ensure all patient belongings are turned over to the hospital staff and a receipt obtained, if necessary.
- Upon request, assist the emergency room staff with the patient; while making every effort to vastly ready the unit for the next call.
- Enter your PCR in the system and upon arrival back to the station, turn in proper and complete run reports.
- Must be flexible to work 24-hour shifts.
